How Your Work Behavior Shapes Your Identity

Everyone has their way of doing things, either in the workplace or in any situation people behave according to their nature & style. The style and behavior tell everything about background, experiences, beliefs, interests, and lots more. This reflection creates an image on the mind of those who sight and feel the behavior presented by the person. We might also have made an identity interior ourselves; our identities are equally subjective from others’ views. We also can be described as confident or honest, at the same time as others can also label us conceited, meek, or unpredictable.

1. Understanding The Action And Behavior

For example, if someone says, ” he is a doctor,” a sudden image will emerge in the listener’s mind that how educated he is, he must be well known by a big community, he must be polite and sensible, a doctor must be a responsible citizen and so many other things created automatically as the identity in mind. But if the doctor has a slight behavior change, then he has been assumed, the observer will get a sudden shock. This brings conflicts among a society, workplace or community. People are reluctant to accept others’ changed personalities.

2. Work Behavior And Identity

Our identity is how we recognize ourselves. However, our social identification is how others identify us. Human beings understand us with the valuable resource of our traits inside our city, faculty, career, or social context. Society will pick out every person from one’s traits, then locate the person in a collective business enterprise with others that proportion the one’s tendencies. Social identities are probably described using our marital, economic, occupational, spiritual, or behavioral fame.

3. The Behavior Of Individuals Answers Such Questions

Actions and behavior will create an identity for a person, like how the person will do it and why he does it. It will indicate a person’s direction.

Behavioral identity delivers the answer of six “Ws.”

3.1 Who are you?

Does it answer the question about a person’s personality? Like who he is, whom the person belongs to, who are his companions, with whom he stood, who is in his network, and so on. These answers give the idea to others what type of person he may be by his company. There is an old saying, “a person known by his company.” That is hundred percent true that a person is creating his perceptions, an image, an identity while doing his every action.

3.2 How do you behave or take action?

It is all about how you present yourself by your activity and behavior toward any situation; what are the key things other people may expect from you in any specific circumstances. It is like how someone feels, when we see a person shouting at one of his companions in a public place. Another example, if a person came late to the office on his 1st day or how he responds to an assignment in the workplace.

3.3 What do you do? 

“What” answers your choice, what you choose, at the behavior you attempt to solve any problem, what actions you prefer to take in different scenarios, what are your habits, what is your perception toward the work. For example, what way a person chooses in an emergency, etc.

3.4 Where do you do?

Answering ” where” is considered as the non-neglected part of the person’s identity. If you are intended to be a writer, then the answer is where you wanted to create an identity as a writer. Where you want to make it, you recognize yourself. The solution of ” where” is also setting up a goal or aim. It will tell others how focused the person is.

3.5 Why do you? 

This word “why” answers a person’s reason to choose an action or any specific condition or scenario. It is the solution to the purpose behind the individual’s behavior and selections. We are ethical actors in this universe, and we ought to be conscious about why we take a stand. The “why” of one’s identity is considered to be the most common thread that runs across all options.

3.6 When do you? 

At the same time as you act for your attitude, behavior, beliefs, etc. When are you ready to face danger, discomfort, or suffering? The most common response is “when it’s truly necessary,” which links into your identity “Why”. This “when” is answering your time selection when you realize and feel better in a situation to start tackling.

As far as coming up with all the above answers, shaping up an individual’s identity by individual behavior and action. But it is crucial. Whatever the notion a person creates at the others of our vogue, this all depends on the behavior selection at work or any other spot. Why is identity crucial? Society, our surroundings, our job area are among the many factors that form who we’re, and in turn, our collective and private identities shape society.
